Jookabox / Mab Lab / Twin Monster Live Feb 5th!

MabLab, Jookabox, Twin Monster, A Squared DJs, Action Jackson
The Vogue, 6259 N. College Ave., thevogue.com
10 p.m., $5, 21+
While we know that The Vogue has to make money sometimes, we’re so much more pleased to see local groups playing original music on a Friday night than cover bands. This week they’ve got MabLab, the trip-hop ensemble formed around the turn of the millennium that’s back from the dead — which we’re also excited about, because Eric Brown and Kate Lamont are both innovative and talented local musicians that can’t fail to shine, even if they’re trying to figure out what this new incarnation of their group will sound like. Jookabox is certainly one of our favorite bands, and another group that’s figuring out how best to be a band, after expanding from a one or two-man project last summer (and from a four-piece to a five-piece this year). If you haven’t yet heard their latest, Dead Zone Boys, it’s highly recommended, both by the staff of Luna (where one of the Jookaboxers works) and by this paper, which thought it generally outstandingly creepy and catchy. With Twin Monster, up-and-comers in the world of independent hip-hop; the A Squared DJs, who helped put this show together; and Action Jackson.

Audio Recon Remixes Jookabox

click for Free Download

from asthmatickitty.com:

Asthmatic Kitty Records and Audio Recon have teamed up to present a collection of remixes celebrating the release of Jookabox’s Dead Zone Boys.  David “Moose” Adamson’s infectious rhythmic style inspired the label to get geographic and see what type of response Dead Zone Boys would draw from some of its top artists in the midwest as well as opposite ends of the country.  This free EP contains 10 remixes by midwestern artists Amtrak, Id Obelus, Yeti One, Ligyro, DJ Solly, Whois Louis, Ablerock as well as Brad Dujmovic from LA and Nomar Slevik, based in Freeport, ME.

Amtrak’s dubstep version of “Phantom Don’t Go” gives the song’s playful vocal tracks a swirling wave of synth to swim through while an atmospheric dub beat flows underneath.  Indianapolis’ own Yeti-One of Twin Monster gives “Don’t Go Phantom” a smooth and jazzy backbeat, spooky brass chorus and a free styled hip hop verse of his own.  LA Artist/Producer, Brad Dujmovic recorded his own full band version of “Phantom Don’t Go”, complete with hard rock riffs, classical guitar, grand piano and an epic guitar solo.

Come join us in celebrating the release of this EP with a special show at the historic Vogue Theater this Friday on February 5th. Come see  Jookabox before they set forth on their European tour. Mab Lab and Twin Monster will also be performing with a dance party to follow featuring the A Squared Industries DJs and DJ Action Jackson.

B-BOY BEATS – FULL DETAILS REVEALED!
Underground Hip Hop soundtrack, innovative game-play and heaps of attitude…

DUNDEE, UK – 29th January 2010
Scottish iPhone publisher and developer Tag Games is today pleased to announce full details of its upcoming hip hop rhythm action game B-Boy Beats. Developed in partnership with Mobile Pie, a hugely talented studio based in the UK’s hip hop heartland of Bristol. B-Boy Beats aims to reinvent the stale rhythm action genre made popular on iPhone by titles such as Tap Tap and Rock Band.

Overview
Are you ready to party? B-Boy Beats is a unique, all action, hip hop rhythm game set in 1980’s New York City. As the lead member of a new break-dance crew looking to gain respect, you’ll need to learn the latest moves and battle other crews to claim new turf across various city locations.

Game-play
Place your fingers on the screen and get ready to move! Simply tapping isn’t enough to succeed in B-Boy Beats. Players must hold their fingers on the screen – giving the feel of virtual legs moving across a virtual dance floor!!
Learn the latest dance moves in the fully interactive tutorial before heading out onto the city streets. There are 10 break-dance moves to learn with each one requiring ever greater skill, timing and confidence to pull off. You knew the city was a dangerous place when you left the safety of the suburbs but are you ready to be tested to the limit? There are 7 hardcore crews each breaking on their home turf to take on and ultimately beat down in your quest to be the best in the city.

Underground Hip Hop ft MC Frontalot
B-Boy Beats features 17 dope tracks from the rising stars of underground Hip Hop. Led by Nerdcore and Penny Arcade favourite MC Frontalot the game also includes awesome tracks from Optimus Rhyme, Id Obelus, Ultraklystron, Rai and Magitek.

Features
-The most original music game on iPhone today
-Face off against 7 NYC crews each with their own turf
-Awesome music talent from the hip hop underground
-Rhythm action game-play where your fingers become legs!
-10 authentic break-dance moves to learn

Special thanks to Nomar Slevik, who rushed to mix, master, and edit my expletives to meet Tag Games’ requirements. You’re the Man! -Id
